Garage sale find - Northern Star
Found this lat week in a garage sale and could not resist buying it.
Not as famous as it's sister ship and i never sailed on either of them, but just had to have it and hope to have it hanging in our new home in Mentone in a few weeks time.
Hope my pix open.

Re: Garage sale find - Northern Star
She had great Cruises after being Built, and i saw her on occasions both in Cape Town and other Ports. This was of couse after my Service in the MN.
Sailing out of the great Port of Southampton on to Las Palmas, Cape Town,Durban, Freemantle, Melbourne,Sydney,Wellington, Rarotonga,Tahiti,Acapulco,Balboa,Caracao,Trinadad, and fially home again to Southampton. Some lovely Cruises!
Those who worked on her and did that must have been in Seventh Heavan! But for the Work! LOL

Thanks Vernon.
Reminds me of sailing from Cape Town to Durban on the way to NZ on the Southern Cross.

Yes Des
The Southern Cross sort of the older Sister Ship, did that same run but in opposire directions , also saw her a few Times in Cape Town, she was a Regular about 4 times a Year in the 1950's.
The good old days hey!
She went on in Service for some 48 Yeras in different Names of course and Owners, quite a few in fact!
Cheers

Talking about her though, i do recall her being known as the Green Godess , and did see her in the Green Hull Colour at one time, but how long was she actually in that Green?? Most other places i had seen her she was just as launched with the Grey Hull.
Cheers

Re: Garage sale find - Northern Star
I did one trip on the Southern Cross, an absolute nightmare.
The violence in the pig over Crown and Anchor had to be seen to be believed.
