Re: Just found this text from my brother a couple of years ago
On reading your comments Bob, if he was only in the Legion for a Month, that would mean that he did not get to do much if any training , as with the Initial processing etc before being sent to Marseilles for the actual Course, it would have taken up at least a Week or so. It is hard to try and work out just what he did ? One theory if that was the case, is that after he signed on at whichever Establishment, either Fort de Nogent or Fort de Vencennis, he may have taken leave (which you were allowed before going to Marseilles) for a day.
In this time he could well have made his mind up to get the hell out, and just hitailed it back to the UK. But this again like you messages to me , only possibility.
As a volunteer, you are allowed to ask to go home every morning throughout the selection process.
One last thing that also may have happened (I had heard of this but not sure of any thruth )) he managed to join up through a side Door in Africa? Who knows! Mystery Man!!! LOL

Re: Just found this text from my brother a couple of years ago
Hello Colin
As i am not too fimiliar woth waht went on at that time , as it was in 1961 taht i served. But i did and have heard that there is or was the 2eREP Parachute Regiment that have been in Djbouti for along time, i think they send a Company at a a time for training there for only about 4 Months at a time! After which they are sent to other parts mainly i hear Corsica!
So the time you refer to may well have been in service then!
Cheers
