    Default Panama canal transit

This is a time lapse video of a transit through the enlarged canal, looks like there are no mules in the new locks, tug assistance to get into the locks instead.
    Hope it works.

Been through twice, West to East, and most of the transit was at night both times so never saw much. I do remember that there was lighting the length of the canal or is my memory wrong.

No Mules, that means no need for the apprentice to collect stale bread for them.

Tut ! Now wouldn't one think they would have portholes in the engine room-or a periscope!

Went through the canal many times between 1969-75. The engineering never fails to amaze me.
I miss the mules.. on my first trip through as a 19 year old I collected carrots from the galley as instructed. )

Judging by the logo on one of the containers let's hope the ship doesn't get stuck like the Evergiven in Suez.
The time lapse photography makes it look as if the ship had disc brakes!

It seems to work vey well have not heard any complaints from ships that had used the new locks when visiting them in a US port as a surveyor.

Great footage. Strange to see the locks being navigated without mules. Like Bill, I spent much of the time in the ER but even from occasional visits topsides I remember getting half eaten to death by trillions of mozzies

I think it was on the container ship “APL Thailand” that we had TV type screens both in the wheel house and Engine room that allowed operational staff at both stations see what was going on in each space. The Bridge had Engine controls which was strange for me as i had been away from actual sea time for 40 years ! Good that the duty engineers could see port or berth approach, unlike being on sightless StandBy when someone forgets to ring FWE long after ship was alongside !
