Re: Bribery and corruption at sea
Graham, some facts for you.
I lived in Maida Vale for a number of years with out any fears, worked for some time for a catering agency working in all manner of city and other suburbs.
Born in Dulwich and lived in more suburbs than you could poke a stick at.
Lived in Birmingham for about tow months back in the late 60's'
Have no fear what so ever of being in London in any part, still have extended family there who keep us up to date with what is going on.
In 2019 while in London there was an incident on, think it was Waterloo, bridge while we were crossing, no worries mate.
I still know my way around most of London but it has over time changed and in some cases not for the best.
Going back to Maida Vale I can see the change in Edgeware Road, it was at one time Maida Vale to Marble Arch, now more like Mandalay to Marakesh.
Not one English speaking or signed shop left.
Like many capital cities there has been significant change, but we still enjoy going back for a trip.
Take the ferry to Greenwhich to see mates, eat at the Argyle Arms opposite the Paladium and watch London at night'
No Graham I do not have a down on London, but not long after our last trip there we had a murder by knife here in Melbourne.
Talk back radio went viral with listeners screaming for something to be done.
I phoned in and asked what is the problem, giving details of knife murders in London'
We may have left there for a better life here in Oz but London will always be home to me.

Re: Bribery and corruption at sea
Ah John-I suppose hou can always rely on the "relis" though to give the expats the low down(and it usually is low) about the situation at any particular time back in Blighty, you know, the immigration, the marauding gangs of looting youths, the orgying corrupt politicians, the pestilence, the famine, the plagues of locusts and those terrible Jack the Ripper murders, even little old ladies carrying kitchen knives to protect themselves, floods(oh sorry,I'll stay clear of that topic affecting you in dear old Oz at the moment!)
Yes,"Rellis".What would we do without them?
But...have you ever thought John that yours might be being rather clever in spreading all this 'doom and gloom' in order to dissuade you not to come back again?
Cheers!
Graham

Re: Bribery and corruption at sea
No Graham, my relis, mainly on the wife's sided enjoy our trips there.
Yes doom and gloom is all over the place, we have some here if you wish.
But fear not, all being well we will be back there again in June/July including a week in Ireland to see the outlaws.
So you had better be on your best behavior.
