As per Guinness book of Records ... 1998.. The fastest Pacific Crossing was the from Yokohama to Long Beach Cal. Of 4840 nautical miles took 6 days 1 hr. And 27 min.in July 1973. Average speed 33.27 knots. I took special note of that one as noted the 27 minutes . Any odd minutes in the steaming time I always made them divisible by 6 , as 6 minutes is .1 of an hour 18 mins is .3 of an hour and so forth. They must have been really going for the record. I assume this record has now been superceded. This was made by the container ship Sea-Land Commerce. At the time would deserve one of Cappys rums and to hell with the consequences . JS

At that speed what kind of ship was she?
sounds like some sort of speed boat doing the speed on the lake bit.

There could well have been a few seconds on that times as well, for the record you must be very specific.

I think it was Den told me that there are two container ships that run between Japan and the States, with all the containers for Walmart they take five days one way. I can't quite remember but I think he said over 33 knots.

The fastest commercial crossing for the Blue Riband was the United States in July 1952 in 3D 10h 40 m average speed of 35.39 knots.
