Re: ss richard montgomery
If they do it will be perfectly safe, anyone remember when they tried to blow up the concrete piles of Hayling Islands railway bridge?
Bridge before having all the woodwork taken away

Concrete pillars prior to having the Navy blow them up

And today

Bluddy great bang, a lot of Langstone Harbour flying mud and very little else, oh and this was because Beeching's report said the bridge was weak and unsafe.

Yes Jim it was a horrible tragedy for many of her crew and other tugs attending her.
It has been well mentioned in various threads in these Forums.

Re: ss richard montgomery
When one thinks of the Concordia and other groundings, one has to ask what if! what if some some out of control ship does the same thing in the Thames and rams the the Richard Montgomery, I know it's been there for years, but with modern ships with mostly emotronic gadgets
maybe not as easy to stop.
