One of the ships that was demolished at the ABLE yard was the 'Simon Lake', which served as the USN Nuclear/Polaris fleet tender in the Holy Loch on the firth of Clyde for a period in the mid/late 60's. I think three other 'reserve fleet' hulks were also broken up in the same contract.

Apart from the French Aircraft Carrier CLEMENCEAU contracted separately,the 4 (of the original 13) US Naval Vessels dismantled at Seaton Channel,Tees, by ABLE (UK between 2009 and 2011 were:-
CANOPUS (AS 34).Submarine Tender,12,000grt ,built 1965
COMPASS ISLAND (EAG 153) originally C1-S cargo ship Garden Mariner 9,214 grt built 1953 converted to research vessel 1955/6-was laid up Virginia 1981.
CALOOSAHATCHEE (AO 98) T3-S2 Tanker,’-fast’ 2 screw18.0 kts , steam turbine,12,155 grt,built 1945
CANISTEO (AO (AO 99) Ditto " "

The Ussn Canopus, was a submarine depot ship. She was based in the Holy Loch for a number of years, servicing the American Polaris submarines.
