Being Graham Steered off course a little to tell us of his singing prowess, If I may come in here and give a mention to the Royal Variety show in which the famous Ed Shearing came on, my wife sat up in anticipation as he was; according to all the pundits, the best singer since Gili, but what came out of his mouth sounded like a frog with a sore throat, she sat there with her mouth open so wide I could have thrown grapes in, she said something is very wrong wit the world if he is the best singer around, I agreed with her.
I am now going put a pillow over my head.

I often boast about being a choir boy. I was brought up during the war years with my elder cousin Bill who was 6 years older than me , and everything he did I did, I was his shadow , and he was an alter boy and in the church choir and so was I, this was in Kingston on Thames . He must have been 13 or 14 when his voice was breaking that he had to give the singing up . This must have been about 1945 , so true to form I went up to the choirmaster and said Bill is resigning , so so am I . Son he said you haven’t started yet, if I had been older that could have hurt my feelings as already got paid from singing at weddings . Maybe Ed Shearing his voice is breaking ? JS.
