I served on a Shell tanker one time that carried nothing but aviation spirit. The pumpman was out of his brains most of the time. The story was that he made his own hooch from the cargo. It was either that or there was a leak in the pumproom.

While working as silver king on the Orsova there was a bell boy, well he was thrown out of lift duty as bloods had complained that he would not stop chatting.
he then was put in the first class resturant to help out, well one evening he came to me and asked for a soup turren as he was told to bring in some soup. I then noticed he had one of his fingers stuck in a bottle. I asked him why is your finger in the bottle, he said it was stuck.
I turned away for a second and he was gone, i thought no more of it till I heard a large crash and plates smashing.
The bell boy had seen a turren in the silver room and took it not knowing it had a small hole in it , he then took the turren to the press and filled it up and proceded to the resturant about four waiters had sliped within the enterance and in the revolving doors.
I never did find out how and why he got his finger stuck in that bottle
