Empress of Britain
https://www.wrecksite.eu/wreck.aspx?11035
It was always rumoured that she was carrying south African gold bound for the u.k. when she was attacked by a German bomber. All passengers and most of the crew got off safely from the burning ship. Skelton crew left on board and attempts were made to tow her to safety but a German sub spotted her and fired torpedoes at her causing her to sink. After the war her wreck was discovered in 500 ft of water, upside down on the sea bed. Divers were able to access the bullion room and break into it, finding it empty save for a human skeleton.
Weird that isn't it.
