Calmal
The Scottish Government Department for procuring assets including ferries has appointed a German firm to propose initial design for 7 new ferries.
Calmal (Caledonian Maritime Assets Limited) are the owners of all the Calmac Ferries which are operatedby Calmac.
Disappointing that a UK firm was not asked to do the initial work.

Re: Calmal
John, Fergusons of Port Glasgow were nationalised by the SNP.
The two ferries are at a minimum five years late in delivery and are a millions over budget.
Don't think we will ever know full story as the SNP and Calmal refuse to give evidence at an enquiry.
McColl owner states Calmal kepting making design changes after contracts were signed and won't pay for any changes hence over budget and delays.
As we all know after contract has been accepted and signed any changes to theinitial design, will cost the owners money.
Calmal state changes built into contracts.

I spoke to a firm of consultants about the LNG fuelling system for these Calmac vessels that they were involved in, but they were not very forthcoming with info, I think the whole system may have been given to MAN who are doing complete systems not just engines. I know they have some LNG bunkering systems in Sweden, and have standard designs for storage and transfer pipework etc.

Re: Calmal
Sounds like our ferries that our State Govt had built in South Korea against all advice. Delivered twelve months ago and yet to go into service. They can't go up the Parramatta River after dark with passenger on the upper deck as it would cut their heads of going under the low bridges, and after dark the way the wheelhouse has been constructed the lights blind the wheelman, they also can't go into reverse as the engines wont stop. These are only a few of the problems, they used to build them in Newcastle NSW now the govt is talking about giving them the remaining contract.

Des, bit like ours down here i n Vic, we arer to get new ones but as yet no one is certain where from.
They will no longer sail from Melbourne, moved south to Geelong, but as of yet no one knows from which part of the port as currently it is used for oil and bulk carriers.

Happy daze John in Oz.
