Has anybody any information regarding the "Fort Island" ID No 169867 during the 2WW especially 1944/45. I,m trying to find this information for the daughter of Langton Williams who was an Ordinary Seaman on her at this time. Any info or a photo would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Fort Island
Alan. Know this is an old post but in researching my paternal Grandfather, Sidney Harold RAY, I have discovered he was 1st Officer of RMS Fort island ( 16 Jun 1944 ). The details from the Nat Archs are not substantial but highlight Special Ops. Sidney emigrated to New Zealand in 1967 where he died some 18yrs later. I was 9yrs at the time. My father only one mentioned his wartime service as being a high risk one. Alas he died prematurely prohibiting any other detail. We also know he was debriefed in Hamburg. I can email you Nat Arch copies if you wish and would of course be very interested in any info you may have collated. Philip Ray

Philip ,the Arnold Hague Convoy Database confirms the probability of 'special operations' during the period you mention.
FORT ISLAND arrived in convoy HX290 at Liverpool ex New York on 19th May 1944.
Her next recorded movement was Sailed Independently to Belfast and return 22nd June -25th June 1944.
I guess your National Archives copies will have confirmed all that.
Best Regards
