Re: The Ever Given, the aftermath....
Well John here in Melbourne we had two events, Easter and school hols so up goes the price of fuel by around 30 cents a liter.
Now paying $157.9 for unleaded.
But go up country and it is still at about $124.9.
They hang it on the city motorists when ever they can. Price of oil is stable but the Ever Given is just another excuse to up the price.
Will come down over the next couple of weeks, until the next pricing cycle begins.

Happy daze John in Oz.

Re: The Ever Given, the aftermath....
Seems the MV Ever Given has been seized due to its
failure to pay $900 million in compensation.

Re: The Ever Given, the aftermath....
And now, it seems that the Ever Given is going to be there for ever.
And why should the ship owner pay compensation to the Suez Canal authority?
It was their own people in charge of navigation when the accident happened.

Alas the vessel is always conned 'Pilot's advice and Master's orders' The only place this does not apply is the Panama Canal where the pilot has full authority regarding navigation. However the Master can take over if he considers the pilot incapable, Pilots can still be prosecuted, there are a few Pilots on here who can give more in-depth explanations

Re: The Ever Given, the aftermath....
The Panama Canal since it was taken back by the Panamanian Authority’s wouldn’t like to say if that still applies Ivan. Someone, more recent at sea may have more info. On that. The Panama Canal when the US were running came under a port under Naval Control . What the position is today just might be different. The Panama Canal used to have the title of The Panama Canal Zone. And all in that area was subject to U.S. Law. Cheers JS

Re: The Ever Given, the aftermath....
#11 I hope you have the decimal point in the wrong place there john that sure is expensive petrol $157.9 a gallon.
If I was the CEO of Ever Green shipping I would be on the phone to all the CEO's of Maersk , CGM, MSC** and other major shipping companies, discussing a boycott of the Suez canal until the Canal company come up with a sensible and fair offer regarding compensation. ** MSC with their track record for marine mishaps may well be very interested in what the cost is ?
