Re: Tramping Trips
There was a couple with UCL, he was on the Windsor, her on the Pendennis.
The two ships would pass each other outward and homeward bound.
For a good number of years this continued, the kids handed each the note the other left them and according to the steward he said they wee a very happy couple.

Re: Tramping Trips
I think that song “ I was born under a wandering star” , was a good indicator to a lot of seafarers. The few short stays I had ashore for courses and certificates , I could never imagine catching a bus to go to work for the rest of my life . It seemed so mundane and the biggest topic of conversation was the weather. To me going to sea a lot was expectation and every ship a challenge and kept the Adrenalin going most of the time. Today however the weather is still the biggest topic of conversation and those fanatical about it have just disguised it under a different title , sounds more professional as Climate Chamge. JS

Re: Tramping Trips
John, what is a bus to go to work?
Have heard the term but have no idea what it is.
Been here over 40 years, have a seniors travel card and never been on any public transport.
Have I missed something?
