The allurity was a coastal tanker re fueling foriegn going vessels on the north east coast she was i believe ex empire domby......circa 1944 about 9 hands i believe ....mainly bunkering in the tyne next to the old pilot jetty.....we ran daily down to teeside and back....she was a happy ship the old man brown was an old time skipper .....we did a runto aberdeen or elswhere on the coast now and then .....we had a guy aboard who was a full time burgler......mainly shops through the roof at night then back aboard flogging it shoreside or to any on aboard one night he was lifted we didnt see him again ,,,,the old man had a heart attack while eating fish and and chips i saw him in his mess roomblue in his face ..a big lump of cod stuck in his mouth and throat i pulled it out and i thought he was dead.....the mate came when i called and thought he was dead ...we were just coming in the tyne ...we radioed an ambulance ...all could not find a pulse or see him breath .....the ambulance took him ......we wonderd who the new old man would be ....it was summertime we usually let go about 7 or 730.......at about 1O to seven the old man comes down the jetty ...shouting stand by ,,,,couldnt believe it .....right as rain ......she was a fine little vessel good crowd one ab a full iriquois indian long black hair was supposed wanted in canada for life sentence ......any way along comes winter bloody submarine cold and wet disappeard out the tyne surfaced at the tees ......shot of to the pool got a tanker up the gulf ......nice and warm up there .....happy days cappy

I did Six Months on the AMITY, sometimes known as the "calAMITY" a small tanker.
real good job around the coasts of UK and Channel Islands.
Single berth accommodation which for 1952/3 was very good.
Many adventures, from ships sinking and young ladies being transported around the coast.
Must write about it one day
