Horses Remembered

Just a very short one here of a Horse that was made the Soldiers in Remembrance of their Services during the War.
Sent to me by John in Oz that was small but i managed to enlarge it.
Very good work with the formations and a credit to them all.

Doc: Featured for remembrance five years ago as Never Forget: Incredible tribute to the 8 MILLION hero horses killed in First World War
the picture shows the poignant tribute hundreds of First World War soldiers paid to the horses who died fighting by their side. Last
year a War horse statue was unveiled at National Memorial Arboretum. 2018 saw a memorial to war horses that lost their lives
during World War One unveiled near Ascot racecourse. The bronze sculpture, named Poppy, has its head bowed with a string of
barbed wire around its hooves. There is a Horse Memorial in a provincial heritage site in Port Elizabeth in the Eastern Cape
province of South Africa, in memory of the horses that served and died during the Second Boer War, where Britain brought a
large number of horses to South Africa.

The saddest bit about that Victoria was that the ones sent overseas never came back.
Shot on the beach by their handlers.

It did happen, not often, possibly creating the legend which has inspired the writing and film War Horse.

A very good site and one can Search for Movies in the Search Box. Of course not all Movies will be available but there are still lots . When searching a list comes up with the Words you Type in. Hope others will also use the site, as said its free and all full length Movies! Great!!

Victoria, one horse was indeed returned for some obscure reason.
There was a story that two of the soldiers were so distressed at having to kill their horses that they committed suicide.

My maternal grandfather served with a mounted regiment WW1 I never really knew him. Most of my family were of farming stock and the horse was a main stay before WW2 and just after. One granduncle who breed working horses was quoted as saying "Tractors they'll never catch on ". My only memory from childhood was being on a cart behind two horses with an other granduncle Polly & Rosie. Growing in the city horses were still employed in the '50s and early '60s usual the milk or veggie cart, the women had to be quick to pick up the horse droppings for the rose beds competition was fierce.
