SS Phidias
Can anybody assist in trying to find out anything about my grandfather, a Merchant Navy 3rd Radio Officer who died on SS Phidias on 08/06/1941. His name was Albert Bennett DIXON born 14/02/1911. Many thanks

Re: SS Phidias
Keith he was born in Manchester. Am I right in thinking that he wouldn’t have a discharge book number as he was killed in action?

Re: SS Phidias
His discharge book would have been like a small passport with personal details a record of his service, his arrivals,
ports, ships etc.
Our Doc, will find all if possible that can be found.

Re: SS Phidias
I dont see any records at the NA Diane there are a few listings of that Surname ,but none i think are his ,there is one with Initial A Dixon but Born in Hull 23/9/1911 so not him.
However his CRS10 may well be there somewhere,it would be best to contact them and ask if they have Records on him at all. There should be ?
If there should be in this Series ,so quote this Reference when asking.,and give his Full name etc and Ship dates etc.
Good Luck
CRS10

Re: SS Phidias
Thanks Keith I’ve seen the items the uboat site. I have no knowledge of a discharge book number. I do have a subscription with Find my past and can’t find much about his service on there. I am in possession of his war medals, passed down from my nana and mum 😁
