    Default Capsize again

This looks like a repeat of the car carrier capsize that happened in the Solent a couple of years back, again it seems lucky where she was unable to sink as such. Don't think i would sleep very well if i was a crew member on one of these, kt

They don't look sea worthy to me, Flat bottom nothing on the upper deck, If I was sent to sign on that I would make sure I missed her Terry.

The missing crew members have been located alive, trapped inside the wreck. Latest is 3 have been rescued with the one remaining rescue underway.

All four safe and sound now, plus the other 20 and pilot rescued earlier. Sailed on these as supt, definitely no sudden rudder movements, no hard a port or stbd at half speed or full speed. They heel over 5 -6 degrees in a light wind. Transferring any fluids at sea or even just leaving or entering port, is usually a no-no, even bunkers from storage to service tanks.

Naval architects with their computer mathematical modelling will have shown that stability was fine in all conditions of load/ballast/bunkers etc, but these people usually do not factor in mother nature or human error. Best to wait for results of inquiry rather than conjecture

Its an interesting situation re stability, memory not that good, but the Solent episode was caused by transfer of ballast or fuel wasn't it???, wonder if this is the same. Both seem to have been fortunate in shallow water, and not actually at sea, kt

Howard I am sure you must have read or looked at the ships draught at some time or another.

Sorry Red Lead Ted, I don’t really understand your last comment. I’ve been under about a dozen ships in drydock and they were all flat bottomed or very nearly so. Every tanker, container ship and ferry that I ever sailed on would have stood upright if grounded on a flat surface. Perhaps I’m misunderstanding what you mean.
