Daughter of Dick Turpin (Beaverbank 1959)
Dad posted this on his Facebook in 2009.
"WOULD LIKE TO SEE IF ANY OLD BUDDIES FROM U.K. ARE STILL AROUND. John Ford, Ian Harris, Ron Tassel, John Knopps. Richmond Ice Rink, ARL, Twik & Kingston Tech 1952-59. MV Beaverbank '59/60."
Any of these names ring a bell, or on here?
Dont think he was too familiar with computers to find this page.

Re: Daughter of Dick Turpin (Beaverbank 1959)
Just seen this post... don’t know if saw previously and said something or not. However knew a Dick Turpin was Bosun on I think one of JIJ s ore carriers for a short time. Thought he sailed out of Liverpool, and the story true or not was that he was the uncle of Randolph Turpin the boxer. If remember the ships name will get back if necessary. JS

Re: Daughter of Dick Turpin (Beaverbank 1959)
If it was one of JIJs ships would have been about 1972 or thereabouts and he would then have been a bloke about fiftyish. Could well have been a Geordie apart from his Liverpool twang, might be the same family along the line somewhere. The fiftyish Bosun was said to be the uncle of Randolph Turpin, but may also have been a flight of fancy. Thinking back the ship may have been the Beechwood. Cheers JS

Pretty sure that the bosun of the shore gang for C.P. in London in the late 60's was called Turpin.

Re: Daughter of Dick Turpin (Beaverbank 1959)
The Turpin I am referring to his pedigree went back to the West Indies probably via West Africa, that’s why I say he could well have been a Geordie. Shirley Bassie could well have been hs sister. JS

A Friend of mine, Now Deceased, 1997, Fought Randolph Turpin and beat him, just before he became World Champ.
He was Charles Connolly, charged with doing the Cameo Murders in Liverpool, He served Ten Years in Wakefield Gaol but later we cleared his name as he was Innocent, along with George Kelly who was hanged.,

Re: Daughter of Dick Turpin (Beaverbank 1959)
When I was a kid we used to train at this boxing club the Crown ABC better known as Duffy's I think RLT trained there and was good by all accounts.Anyway a couple of men got a charabanc to take us to Gwrych Castle Randy's training camp,Randy was there at the time and came down and had his photo taken with the club. There was a sports museum there with all different sportsmans stuff in it.We noticed a couple of older lads robbing a pair of Randy's bag gloves which they hid up a tree. Our gang went to retrieve them, this lad was told to keep Dixie,he shouted Dixie so we all scattered and I ran through nettles which were taller than me.I was wearing a T shirt shorts and sandles so was I covered in stings from head to toe.The Dixie was a false alarm so the lad got a few smacks off my elder brother. So whenever Turpin is mentioned I think of being stung all over.
As the charabanc was pulling away for home two men stood in front of it and waved it down, they realised the bag gloves were missing and they could've only have been stolen by one crowd "that boxing club from Liverpool".The men who organised the trip felt truly let down and disappointed.
Regards.
