My first Ship

Before my time on her but this was my first ever ship I sailed on when I joined the Merchant Navy. I joined her in October 1969 in Belfast, I only coasted her though. Strange as she was berthed opposite H&W were she was built about 15 years before. Just spotted the mistake on the video, when they are lifting the barrels onboard that is not the Owerri they are loading to, take a look at the funnel.

Oh yes Lewis the first Ship was always the one that you remember the most I think,as it was after all ones start in such a great Organisation! The British Merchant Navy !! May it always be remembered!

Yes Lewis, our first ship it will stay in our memories for ever.
Windsor Castle in Southampton docks, I remember oh so well looking up at her stern and thinking I had never seen anything so big.
Looking back I doubt she was but as a young lad of only just about 16 she looked enormous.
Happy daze John in Oz.

No Doc it is a link I borrowed from another forum , Some of the lads link up posts from the ED forum onto the Blue flu forum, as you may know Blue Flu and ED's ended up as Ocean Fleets.
My comment about when they are loading the barrels and they start the hoist you get a glimpse of the ships funnel, compare the funnel and the ship they are loading to is not the Owerri, but the rest of the footage is her.

My first ship was the TURKISTAN, of Strick Line. An old triple expansion with a BUWAC low pressure turbine assist main engine.
My teeth still chatter when I think of those old Clarke Chapman steam winches hammering away.
