    Default Still searching....another question !

Hello everyone. A quick question...if a man was on a 'requisitioned' merchant vessel during WW2, could he have been on the vessel, but NOT in the Merchant Navy? Also...does anyone know what T124 means?

At the beginning of both world wars the RN was extremely short of experienced seamen. Some MN ships were requisitioned by the Admiralty and many of their merchant crews agreed to serve under what was known as T124X and T124T agreements, keeping their MN pay and conditions but were subject to naval discipline.

    Hi Pat,
He could have been on the ship as part of the crew when it was requsitioned and had the option to sign a T124X Agreement to stay on the ship under naval discipline or he could have opted to leave and continue service with the Merchant Navy. If he signed on a T124 he may have records at Kew in piece BT 390.

    Regards

Hi All...Haven't found anything new. But have been 'pondering' and going through all the info I do have. So...I have the medal card details. I have his RAF papers that state his MN medals (1939-45 Star & Atlantic Star) were forwarded to him when he was in the RAF at end of the war. He doesn't appear in the MN listings pre 1941. There is no listing for him between 1941 & 1942 when he joined the RAF. Presumably he must have had proof he was in the MN to get his medals. So where are his details? Have I missed something?
PS I've written to various Gov Dept's to try and get info, but they are very unhelpful.
