UCL first class winger would wer a wig, diferent colour depending on the day, lipstick. eye shadow, blusher and perfume. No not to go,ashore to serve the bloods.
One ear ring apparently depending on which ear it is worn in tells if you are gay or not, so i hear.

A bloke I knew had a girlfriend who had no ears, she unfortuanetly wore glasses also, when I asked how she kept them on she pulled her hair back and showed she used blue tack to keep in place. He would of really not gone down well if he had forgotten and bought her earrings for Xmas. JS

Re: Mariners Attire
Richard was master on an American ship the Dickerson Tide and whilst on my swing off was recalled as the American presence on board had to go home for his twin brothers funeral, and the only way the US coast guard would let him off was for me to go back which I did. Sounds complicated but there is a post elsewhere about it. Anyhow I was flown in to Barrow Island which you probably know and the ship sent in the FRC to pick me up. The coxn who was on the opposite swing to me I met for the first time, he had the usual ring through his nose ear and tongue and immediately thought oh my God whats it coming to. It only took me a couple of days to find out appearances are deceptive, as a better seaman it would be hard to find, he also came from a good family background, it taught me to never go on first impressions again, some say that first impressions count, in this case it did not work that way. I think a lot of youngsters just want to be different, the easiest way to do this shortly will be to not have such adornments as most will have and will be the only way to be different. The same as tattoos just my feelings but I don't like, others may find attractive, I certainly find them repulsive on a woman, but suppose could overcome this by shutting my eyes at the critical time. Or maybe just put the light out. Cheers JS

Re: Mariners Attire
Quite agree appearances can be deceptive, have had a young plumber in the house for a fortnight renewing a complete bathroom, qualified in all aspects, plumbing and electrics and an excellent tiler, what an artisan, his pipework was a joy, no spaghetti like some plumbers I've employed, no sharp bends to restrict water flow, gentle curves a really pity everything is now hidden beneath floors and behind walls. So polite, and honest, had regular meetings to discuss progress and if any alterations required etc. Now had I seen him in the street wouldn't have given him a second thought, dreadlocks, scruffy beard, ear and lip piercings etc, (which he removed whilst working in my place as he said he knew we were of a certain age and didn't want to offend) he came on recommendation and I wouldn't have any hesitation in recommending him to anyone, but had he knocked at my door unknown and introduced himself as a plumber I may have declined his services, and that would have been my loss.

Re: Mariners Attire
#22.Lot of info there John. Which ear should be ringed to show which side one is batting? I need to know as I'm off to a Pirate themed Christmas fancy dress party this weekend and wouldn't like to give the wrong impression. Also, should the hook be on the left or right.

Re: Mariners Attire
If you do not go as a Pirate, Cappy, you will have no problems in deciding.
.
Go as a Viking, that will stir them up. They were real roughy toughies, didn't wear ear rings. just raped and pillaged.
Just shout "All Pirates are Fruit."
Enjoy your party,
Surprised I was never invited. maybe they have heard about my Viking ancestors.
Great, send us some photos of yourself dressed up then we can all have a bleddy good laugh.
Cheers
Brian.
PS, I havent had an invite to John Arton`s Party yet. I do have an idea where it is.

Re: Mariners Attire
He"s sending Mary to the Pirates party Brian, as Long John Silver, saves on the outfit as half there already with the wooden leg, no doubt he also has an emu kicking around somewhere which he can stick on her shoulder as the parrot, a bit of green paint on its plumage and no one will notice. Wish I was going with Ivan to Cuba that would be a place to celebrate especially now that certain restrictions will be coming off since the signing of the love letters with the states. Cheers JS

Re: Mariners Attire
Hi John
I am just waiting for the Photos of Cappy the Blood thirsty Pirate, or should it the Sol Thirsty pirate,
bet he looks a right twallop with his diamond ear rings in. He hasn't got any gold ear rings so he will be using Marys diamond ones.
Cheers
Brian
