Default Fishing can be dangerous in many ways

Most of us are aware of the dangers faced by deep sea fishermen but I guess no one thought of this.

Lou, do you need a licence to take a boat out in NZ? here in Oz all boats on the open water must have a licence.

To get the licence you must sit an exam and on the craft you must have eight flares and life jackets for all on board. The flares must be changed every two years but there is no official place to get rid of them. Many end up at soccer matches here thrown onto the pitch when one side is losing.

No licenses required, some port and harbour boards stipulate that life jackets must be worn at all times in their controlled area, others insist that there must be enough jackets for each member on board but dont insist that they are worn. As for flares, radio's etc must only recommend they are carried. Hence three lost lives last week.
