thanks for that it should be and will be part of a past that will never come back although I could not get there this year the spirit was with you good people and shows how much it means to all the men who went down to the sea in ships many never came back home but they paid the ultimate price to keep our country from starvation and kept us free always great days out the legs don't carry me far but my spirit do's god rest the men who's grave is the sea they will never be forgotten ..jp

It was a good day John
The church was full to overflowing then the march with band down to the Pier Head Service, followed by a real good hot curry and other goodies at the Eldonian club, which is always free on MN day.
I like to go every year.

always liked the yarns told at pier head some there in their 90s and even having a laugh at the hardships they went through in the war years? talking to an old Geordie chief engineer last time he was going mad about white boiler suits in the engine room he was laughing if they wrung mine out they would have got a few more miles out of the ship that kind of thing great men and an honour to meet some of them..jp

John I was in the actual Suez 56 invasion fleet, how I would have coped with 5 years of it I do not know, I certainly take my hat off to all those who sailed the seas in those days of WWI and WWII it must have been a constant nightmare and yet they kept going back, unsung heroes indeed, but alas forgotten ones!

ivan its know wonder a lot of the old seamen never talked about the horrors they went through and not forgetting the families behind my uncle torpedoed 5 times last to be picked up on 3 my nan had the telegrams telling her that her son was missing/killed in action but we had many a pint and the stories would come out after a few both him and my father in law both passed now and if they could see the state of the world today would they have bothered going to war?/just a thought.jp
