Thats the new Liverpool have a look through these pics dont let the land ones put you off there are many of the docks,maybe you will spot one of your old ships.Have a look at picture 8 (or thereabouts) 2 funnel passenger job in the Gladstone I can't make out what she is.As a matter of interest when you see pictures of the Gladstone to the left you will notice the beach that is now Seaforth Freeport which takes all the container traffic and the new deep river port will be built along there.

Thanks for the photos. Call it nostalgia or whatever you want but it is good to see how things were those earlier days and good to show people and youngsters of today how it was they certainky brought back memore of those times but you couldnt beat the thrill of crossing to Liverpool on the ferry from Birkenhead, seeing the ships , hearng the noise all around you. Ariving at the Pierhead and the feeling of just being there and seeing all the trolley buses. I was lucky enough that my dad took me on the Overhead full length both ways when I was about seven years old. There is no need to describe that for people of our age who have done it but immpossible for peope who havent done it to imagine it.

jim the original plan was for a second berth were the marina is now but was shelved I worked for dick Hamptons earthmoving they excavated the terminal out. it is 92ft deep and there was 52.000.000 cubic yards of earth moved I know I have walked on the bottom of the dock a good job I went from £26.00 a month to £180.00 per week within 2 days of leaving the MN circumstances drastically changed in many ways still miss the sea every day? I see Ivor now and again drinks in the Doric I worked with him he is in his 70s and never changed a bit{well face wise}..jp

Jim, there appears to be two passenger jobs in picture 8. One is the Mauretania in the foreground, and the other one looks like the Queen of Bermuda, but I don't remember her ever coming to Liverpool.

Yes John what is known as the green lake was excavated at the same time a bit of a nature reserve now.You most probably know the man from Seaforth (I wont mention his name) who's son drowned in that lake,not the marina the one in the dock.The Doric was chokka every night with guys from all over the place that were working on the dock including the Italians that did the diaphram walls.Talking of Ivor I seen him this morning when I went for my paper,I think he must be knocking on 80.
