Rothesay - Public baths.
Mention of Rothesay elsewhere has reminded me of the wonderful public baths, does anyone know if these are still in existence? I used them a couple of times in the early 80s when we had a weeks fishing up there based aboard a converted yacht.

There's a Pub in Dublin that is similarly ornate - but only the ladies, it bucks the trend of ladies accompanying ladies to go powder their nose, it's more usually a gent asking a lady to accompany him so he can see them

Re: Rothesay - Public baths.
Have taken this from another site, hope they don't mind.
For Cappy who has an eye for the finer things in life
...........
Chippy's Lament found hanging on an ancient vessel:
To those of you who grunt and groan,
whilst seated on this marble throne
spare a thought or a give a ponder
upon the route your waste will wander
Through paths tortuous it will wind
on bends it will so easily bind
but you know it shouldn’t oughter
if you flush with ample water
so hold the handle for a while
and thus keep chippy’s happy smile
too often has it been his gripe
three inch a**e and two inch pipe.

Re: Rothesay - Public baths.
Fantastic. When we moved to Perth, Perthshire from South Harting, West Sussex we took a caravan. At first we stayed for a couple of weeks in the caravan park by a durn in Perth and then saw an ad in the local for an auld smiddy that we decided to buy. It was two months getting settlement and vendors to move and during that time we had three collies and a doberman pincer we brought over from Singapore - no way out of that with Mum and the kids!
In Perth there was a Public baths that was a joy to behold and a joy to be in after four humans and four dogs in a four berth two wheeled caravan. It was September/October, 1973 and the baths were enormous and the place was as warm as toast. Heaven.

#7, Sorry Richard cannot find any interior photos of the old swimming pool in Perth. Think the link below may be similar
You may recognise Perth in last link
Scotland’s Victorian Swimming Baths | ESI.info Interior ..
Images for victorian public baths in scotland
For whatever reason cannot open these links on here, perhaps someone can help?

Re: Rothesay - Public baths.
John, that question also poses a question. Could be miss represented or having read 'Shogun' definitely avoided. Never got up to Japan so the challenge can only be guessed.

#9, I couldn't find those either Marion. I did discover the relationship between porcelain and Thomas Crapper. I think the Perth Bathhouse was across the Tay in Bridge End. still looking.
