I agree that this yacht seemed to be built for racing, the reports that i have read says the crew are experienced etc, and one report said that it appeared from photos that the keel had fallen off, which there is no recovery from. i too am surprised no examination of the hull has taken place, yachtsmen bullimore survived some time in an upturned hull, and when the rescue crew tapped on the hull, he dove down and popped out alongside. Small well found boats with skilled crew can sail round the world in all weathers, as De Caffari and other people have done single handed, but you have to be a bit special, these people are not your adverage yachtie KT

I honestly believe that many of the problems around our coasts are caused by inexperienced yachtsmen and boat owners , who are so clever that they need no professional instruction at all , I would make some kind of licence and insurance a necessity before they set out . The worst here , in my belief are the inshore amateur fishermen , who set off , often with their kids , no life jakets , no communications , no charts , and no idea
Living where I do, you see idiotic instances all the time, have given up proffering friendly advice, as can only take so much of being told to f--- off, or being looked at as if you're an alien, they do not think of the dangers they put others in because they are so stupid or selfish. My attitude now is one less idiot on the planet

Also maybe be wrong but I understand that yachts do not pay 'Light Dues' even though they have the use of buoyed channels and lighthouses, these dues are all borne by the commercial vessels,

The four crew were - Andrew Bridge, the 21-year-old skipper, James Male, 23, an intern, Paul Goslin, 56, and Steve Warren, 52, who were both volunteer crew members , these voilunteers pay around £1800 for the experience , so two very young professional yachtsment , and two enthusiastic , but possibly experienced volunteers , There are several MAIB reports on the Beneteau range , and after reading , I don't think I would like to tackle heavy weather with one . But like many things in the World today ., it had to get back for its summer schedule

Correct Ivan, no light dues, not just yachts, but any purely pleasure craft, whether fishing sailing canoes etc,. Commercial fishing boats do of course, KT

That position is a long way out for the US Coastguiard to search , I would have thought the on site time for the planes would be very short .

I noticed in Jim`s post of the Befast Telegraph alongside the article of the loss of the Boat, an advert..........
........Get Away From Everyday Life & Relax On Your Very Own Boat. Book Now!

    Hardly inspiring is it.

    Cheers

Maerske under a Greek flag? I wonder if any Danes were on board. A scary sight like a great pile of boxes that you would expect would fall over in a gale, especially one like Cape Hatteras could whip up.
