You stated 'South Bound through Suez you pass smelly cities.....' and, smelly or not', there are no cities on the Suez Canal.

Re: canals
Apart from watching Cappy dance with one legged Mary there rae still some wonderous sights to see. Like brian I have seen some that take your breat away such as Milford sound and some as simple as watching a Vietnam lady making rice paper the same way they have for centuries. There are many wonders out there still to be seen all you havev to do is look for them.

Happy daze John in Oz.

Smelly cities on the Suez canal. Yes I know there are no cities as such but boy oh boy does the place not stink!.
On a slightly different note and not strictly a canal but going up the Seine to Rouen was always fascinating as was the River, whose name I cannot recall, that takes you up to Rochefort which is a fascinating place with its re-constructed rope works and also where the were building a replica of Layfette's ship, him being the guy who history is linked to New Orleans.
The Kiel was interesting but you could get some right sods of pilots if you were unlucky enough.
