Heard you were head barman on the Northumbria, serving the wine by passing around in a brown paper bag with deference, this is the true meaning of camouflage as a previous post. At what part of the voyage was it duty free, or was it free all the time and part of the service provided. Those were the good old days. Can we have them back.. Cheers John S.

####they were the days john ....the tyne heaving with ships coming and going .....i mean properships not these things they have now....every thing like it used to be is a dream it wont ....cant be like that again sadly

In amongst the thoughts of the Tyne , I went forward to Google Earth to see where and what old pubs were still there , I was surprised that all the dockyards are grassed over and no more , and the Tyne looks like a river of leisure not commerce , all that trade now in containers , landed at Southampton and Felixstow , made me think that every ship lost must have taken the dockyards , the ropeworks , the fabrication shops , engine builders ,chandlers , ships stores merchants , pubs , and ladies of the night with it , Hey but the river looks cleaner .

So you stood by the Ferry Jetty and smelled something that smelled like salmon , Yeah , I bet it was a fish

the smell of fish came from north shields .......thars were js comes from.....it used to waft i say waft over to the much more nicer area of shields which of course was a much nicer part of the river tyne....and nice peple lived there......like myself and others in my family

have a clock that bells the watches up to eight bells i know what it does but my wife has not got a clue got it of the buffalo po ship used to sail from fleetwood
