I think most of us when being logged knew in our hearts we had deserved it, many times it was worthit!!, the only time i was disgruntled was, as i have posted before, was when this particular skipper was chissed as a cricked himself, but still it was a good life KT

#10... Maybe I was lucky Ivan when mate on British ships all the masters I sailed with apart from 2, were of the old school and looking for a quite life and delegated the running of the ship to the mate, the same as the chief did with the second. Whether people agree with this or not it suited me. I said in a previous post after 2 months at sea and hitting Japan one was going to find an empty ship, I took the notion to knock half the deck crew off and the other half off when the other half came back. This worked in most cases and cut out the log book and these masters were quite happy with that. There were other ways to relieve pressures of long passages at sea. Every trampship had them, it was only when you got with someone who thought he could run a ship with fear and the logbook that the trouble started. As I said in another post when seamen came to the ship to get their pool forms signed for engagement I always gave preference to those with DRs in their book, others couldn't understand this, it was mainly because I knew the seaman wanted a couple of VGs in his book again, so was going to pull his head in. In most cases they were very good seamen also. When the old breed of masters went out things seemed to change, all seamens attitudes seemed to change this included the mates and engineers. I found the nearest things to the old times were the very small vessels where everyone had to work as a team and not the rivalry and sometimes animosity you saw more frequently on larger vessels. Cheers John S.

Would you believe it... I have just received a commercial advert addressed to me John, about low testoral levels, and advertising tablets. Says after the age of 30 you start to lose your sexual drive. If it was not a apparently a genuine advert would have said that Cappy was going back into business. Has anyone else received. Just shows how people especially these big management companies can keep tabs on everyone. I have no problems with my levels just have to find a young maiden to accept them. Cheers JS
