not many of you will have heard of Stanley Robert Miner, but he was in the Canadian M.N.from 1940-1946 serving in all theatres of the war except the western pacific, just prior to the end of the war he joined up with the army and ended up in Burma, he has been decorated by the canadian and norwegian goverments including the Burma Cross,1939-45 star and the british defence medal. he was also a life member of Burma Star Assc. and the White Ensign Club. he eventualy became a policeman here in winnipeg. when the compulsary time came for him to retire he fought the police city and provincial goverments on this policy and won. the money he was awarded he put down for schoolships for sons and daughters of the police force, he also gave a lot of it away to different charites, he spent another 5years on the force before retiring, then with a rucksack on his back took off to tour the world. between trips he set up a second schoolership at the Red River college and became an active member of the Canadian Forces Amatuer Radio Service (VE4SRM) and the Merchant Navy Assc. of Canada where he served as a Director and vice President until 2006. durring that time his fund raising efforts enabled a model light house to be installed at the veteran hospital here in winnipeg and made personnal donations to halifax, he also sent $1000.00 for the erection of the merchant navy memorial to be built on the hills above Dover in UK. he was proud to be part of the assciations campagne to secure recognition by the goverment for full and equitable MN. rights as those given to the other services, for his work he was given the Minister of Veteran Affairs Award and the Queen Diamond jubilee Medal in 2012. I was at a birthday party for my ex wifes husband (82) where I had the honour to meet Stan. just a few months ago and we sat down and talked for an hour or so, one of the most interesting people i have ever met. he will be missed by a lot of people.
