John, It was when you were on the graveyard watch and your relief fell through, About 04.15 hours you would go down and toss him out the bunk, I reckon there are a few choice words missing there?? Terry.

It originated at the Pool doctor who may be, was not too conversant with the English language. If you had two eyes you would point to and say aye aye. If only had one you would say aye. If you were blind you just said yes. Cheers John Sabourn

Talking of aye aye a guy I sailed with told me this story. On different ships you have different things going on and on this particular ship if you were bent over or you caught somebody else bent over the thing todo was grab him by the a***e and shout "Aye aye there hows that for centre".After three or so months of doing this you would never miss the opportunity if it occurred. The first day he was home his dad bent over to poke the fire and the inevitable happened. He grabbed his old fella by the a***e "and yelled "aye aye there hows that for centre"

Just been having a couple of pints with a guy I see every Sunday.I knew he has a book on sayings etc so last week I set him the task of looking up aye aye.He tells me his book says the first aye is I heard you and the second aye is I will carry out the order.

Aye aye or eye eye began with the shouts of King Harold after he was shot with an arrow.
