Re: sea fog in Spain
John S, whoops should have realised you were talking about the Spanish port. Never got to that one.
Mix up with names in Spanish and other countries can lead to some funny happenings.
I was due to rejoin my ship min the Azores in Punta Delgardo in the Azores and when they sent me the flight details they had me flying to Madrid. I phoed them up and told them that it was strange fling to a Spanish hub to join a flight to a Portuguese Island. Bit of confusion and then they realised that there was an airport in a town in the middle of Spain with the same name and that is where they had booked me to. Should have kept stum and just enjoyed a few days in Spain until they sorted things out.
Eventually joine in Punta Delgardo on Sao Miguel island in the Azores. Lovely place and quite historic. Used to run jet fuel there a couple of times a year from Sines in Portugal. Great run with at least three days in port each end and some great grub and wine in each port along with some fascinating history in Punta Delgardo. It had a dam great long runway built so the American B52's/ could land there in the cold war when flying missions from the states.

Re: sea fog
As an ex-navigator I'm naturally just a bit curious as to where this other Spanish "Bayonne" near Finisterre might be? I can't find it anywhere on Google Earth.
Perhaps you mean Gijon.....maybe?......

clap hands.gifNice one Rob-you certainly think outside the box ,as usual, when you google.
I did forgot to nick the complete 48 volume Admiralty Sailing Directions(Pilot Books) from my last vessel in 1990, when I was finally made redundant; I would have done so but the airline baggage allowance was only 30 kg-still,one of them would have just about been within the limit.I suppose...
The ship was being sold either to the Greeks who obviously wouldn't need the books,or the Japanese who refuse to acknowledge the directions within them,or the Germans who don’t trust the British Admiralty ,or the Chinese who just photocopy them in order to flood the global marine market with cheaper fake editions…
I remember the Sparky on one ship being almost brained when he brought the latest weather report to the chartroom during heavy weather. The ship rolled heavily, then ’ bounced‘,the retaining bar on the bookshelf flipped out,and decanted about two dozen of those heavy Pilot books on him.Ouch.Rolling.gif
What is the definition of an engineer? Answer: Someone who solves a problem you didn't know you had, in a way you don't understand.
A good engineering textbook for students was Proficient Engineering by that famous Danish engineer Bent Spanna

+John , the silver objects all floated ashore in Las Palmas , in exchange for Bacardi , I know the catering department would deny that , but how many wingers went ashore misshapen and came back on board looking normal ,
