One problem is the manner in which the containers are stacked. Get a fire started in one on the lower deck and it could do imense damage before it is noticed.

I remember going up river at san fran to an explosives berth and loading 14 containers of the stuff problem is i cant remember what ship (was on both southland and welly stars sisterships on same run ) never had any fires but was amazing how fast the crew could move if you dropped a twistlock behind them even faster if it was one of them firecrackers bought in fiji i know i left a few brown trails behind me on deck that trip
