Default Another Duwk sinks in the docks at Liverpool.

Another yellow duwk marine craft full of passengers has sunk in Salthouse Dock about an hour ago see HERE- this must surely be the end of them now.The Queen was a very lucky person by the looks of it.

No doubt the new song in Liverpool will be " Were all going on a yellow dwuk submarine "

    Default Sinking feeling

Any ideas why there seem to be an inordinate number of these things sinking and why? After all they are based on an idea taken from WW" landing craft if I remember correctly and they managed to land a load of guys without sinking (unless they were hit by shell fire) on certain beaches in France a number of years ago.
Is it down to inexperienced drivers going too fast and trying to give the passenger a thrill ride by creating waves that then come on board and swamp the craft.
    Just a thought

that made the news on yahoo Philippines also, but said BUS SINKS, thats the second one to be a Submarine, something wrong somewhere, the wartime DUKW,s were reliable, use to use them in ST Helier Jersey for visiting the Castle at High Tide.

    Default Yellow Duckmarine:

It was on the news earlier, but I was just going out:

One of the craft began sinking just before 4pm today with what is believed to have been a bus full of tourists on board.

A police spokesman said that initial indications were that all passengers had got off the craft safely.

The incident is the second sinking involving one of the vessels this year.

    Default Dukw

Think it was the same one that sank twice and had just been restored before BOAC celebrations, think they go down the ramp too fast. Went to school in one in the 1947 floods

two out of four were found unfit for use three weeks ago they are just rust buckets and should be scrapped they are often overloaded and shoot down the ramp into the dock.jp

Apparently it was Quackers 1 which sank today, Quackers 4 was the one that sank last month. Personally I think that anyone that goes on one voluntarily is quackers, especially after seeing the prices for a trip................

Default Yes it is from the mail:

YES IT IS FROM THE MAIL:

More importantly the write up comfirms hopefully: Some of the passengers were treated for shock but no other major injuries have been reported.

Also good pics in the report for anyone interested.

The four boats are adapted from World War Two landing vehicles. Between 700 and 1,000 are currently thought to still exist.

The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh have previously been passengers on the Yellow Duckmarine, when they toured Merseyside as part of the Diamond Jubilee tour last year.

Other high-profile passengers include Richard Branson and Sir Paul McCartney.

The Yellow Duckmarine Company was unavailable for comment last night.

i did not realise they were old wartime ones modernised, , thought they were a modern design, only built of thin steel, salt water soon eats through it, how do they get a safety certificate, ? Or insurance.
