Most likely they went the way of so many others. They failed to keep up with the cahnges taking place and the advent of other countries such as China who now have one of the largest fleets.

In The 60s apart from British Industry being closed down and shipped out to the Third world the Government also helped to set up shipping Companies overseas, such as Nigerian National Line , this had a massive impact on the trade to West Africa, operated by EDs and Blue Flue,
on the world scene in those days as we were shrinking these Third world companies were opening up world wide and our shipping companies shrank. also they shrank a lot more due to containerisation.
So our Seafaring jobs were sold off.

Here's a coincidence. In 1972, I bought my first house, built by Salvesen's, 5 years after I sailed with them on the Salvada. Quite a change from their whaling days. Even the colours on the billboards advertising the homes was identical to their funnel colours. I guess that they just went where the profits were.
