    Hi All.
Was I stupid instead of jumping in NZ I imigrated, when I got down to Southamton to get on the Southern Cross there on the wharf was a table where the taxmen sat checking everyone going aboard, If I'd been a wakeup I could have said I was a relative seeing someone off. Apparently they said I had paid no tax for some reason on all the Sundays at sea over 10 years , and if I wanted to board would have to pay up, I think at the time 60 quid, and in any case now they had me I would have to pay anyway. Nothing made it more sure to me that I would be leaving and NOT coming back.
    Cheers Des

John Sutton, I always thought that was the way with the local preacher & the collection on a Sunday (: never heard done elsewhere..... Having run our own biz's for quite some years mostly with accounts & paid thirty or so days we never were able to get cash, however when a goodly percentage of one of our biz's was cash we put that aside for special use, in fact wound up with a very nice boat out of i one year. Tried to pay a real estate agent in cash on a sale of some commercial property, sadly for him he more than passed wind, then had the vapours would not touch it. Silly boy. So many hotels-bars etc used to have two sets of books reckon same in other areas too. On saying that though with computerisation takings wise (to try to cut down on fiddling) right down to which employee took the money it would be hard to do as everything is recorded right down to the drink ordered, time etc would have to be a non rung up one which could be difficult as others would see then you are in a bad position if it is an employee?
Sold some property, commercial to a couple of Italian 'mechanic's' from a particular part of NSW, they asked if we would accept cash, of course I said they went away came back with a large case opened it it was full of rolls of AU$10,000 a time, shan't say how much but not insignificant. Suffice to say after 'settlement' went through we undid the rolls & scattered it all around the floor & rolled in it just like Scrooge McDuck (: lovely feeling too.

yes Les, but I tell you we learnt our lesson with this hoard as we were so good we stashed it in the safe & every time we took some we kept a a/c of date, amount etc all very biz like. Well that soon went by the board & within twelve months it was all gone. So from then on to today with 'the black'as we call it from then on we are far more controlled as we were so horrified that we could have eaten that much up in such a short space of time not all of it wastefully but never the less easy money easy goes. Have a mate in Hong Kong who has almost Fort Knox in gold stashed as that is what he does with his black money buys gold of the local money boys. Stuffed if we know how he will move it (: when it comes time.
