Have you any other information that may help at all ? the smallest peice may help much, even full name / date of birth - death etc / where born / lived etc. If you have any documents with official numbers on them - these could also help a lot.

His name was William Edward Whitehouse Hughan
Born 22/23 December 1913/14 in Liverpool. (Even he wasn't too sure of his birthday lol)
We have a photo of him in a foofoo band, so we know he sailed somewhere!

Hello Steph,
If he served in the Merchant Navy in WW2, after Jan, 1941, then it is likely any prior MN records of service were transferred from the Central Index Register into the Fifth Register of Seamen in the form of a CRS 10. These records are held at Kew in surname block order. The file for your g/f, if it has survived, should be held in piece BT 382/827 - Detecting your browser settings
This is the best way to find out which ships he served in and where he went but is best viewed/obtained by visit to Kew.
Regards
Hugh

Sorry it's been so long in replying, i also had to make a new account as i forgot my other details.
This is a picture of the band he was in, he's the man on the far right side next to the officer at the end.
I've tried zooming in to see what the hat bands say, but can't make it out.
