Sorry Brian I can't make it either , I don't think I can get a Visa ( That is my excuse and I am sticking to it , Draft gauges , I thought engineers playing Doxfords at a certain age was certifiable , but retired ship's masters reading draft gauges , I would rather have my piles lanced ) Just out of interest , and not to cause an indeterminable lengthy debate , in English , Not American English , is the Depth of water a ship sits in Draught or Draft ? I personally believe Draught , but I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong

Was always written as 'draft' in the log books on all the ships I sailed on

I would just like to say that you have got the year correct, 1966 as I could not get a ship after leave and no strike pay as we would not do picket duty living too far from the albert docks London mainly because didn"t have the fare to get there so I did the next best thing...... got married instead & that was the end of my sea career, it was good while it lasted, cheers....

I had just got married and got a shore job so missed it. went back to sea afterwards.
I did the 1955 AND 1960 STRIKES then thrown off the Pool,
Those two strkes me cost a lot of money
I think our John Prescott had something to do with that one.

I think you will find draught is a term for beer pulled from a pump. draft is when the mother in law speaks.
