67 NUS Strike memories

I was on the Kaduna an ED,s ship in Tilbury during the strike I was 3rd mate.we had a west african crew I think Nigerian with a white bosun and carpenter. We sailed without them when the strike finshed and they were never replaced so that was 2 british jobs lost

Maybe but I recall it in ship terms. I was Ch.Mate of a tanker at the time.

Well, understood John. No different here as I seem to link certain events, primarily, to certain ships. The year then becomes clear ( or clearer) depending on the time of day.

John , was also in Port Talbot for the duration of the strike, 3rd.mate on the Arisaig.

I've got an photo some where of Port Talbot at the time showing all the ships laid up.
If I can figure out a way to post as a thumbnail , will do so.

Remember most of the ore carriers that used to get into Port Talbot. Was the Ariscraig the one manned by cadets or was that another. You will remember Cindy then, very good hearted and well intentioned. That first pub outside the gate forget its name must have done a roaring trade. There were certainly pickets on the gates there at that time and wouldnt let anyone through until I think it was midnight when the strike officially finished. I was mate on the Ravensworth. I know we sometimes go off thread, but what the heck has a 'draught gauge' got to do with the NUS strike, but then again Cap'n Bill's coffee may be extra strong this morning as he has posted more than usual in 24 hours
