Shore passes

In the early 70's i was on a product tanker loading in Klaipeda. Some of the lads had gone ashore to the mission on a bus organised by the mission. There was a midnight curfew so the bus brought them back around 23:30 and the guard at the bottom of the gangway was being very strict and slow checking all the lads coming back on board against there shore passes and discharge books (they had had to leave them with the guard when they went ashore). It was taking that long that by the time the last guy (3rd Eng.) got to the guard there was not enough time for the guard to check him out before midnight so the quard refused to allow him on board. The third. having imbibed to some extent of the local vodka, started arguing with the guard. Big mistake as the guard had a very nasty looking rifle which he pointed at the third. Seeing this from the deck I thought it would be a good idea to go down and sort things out. Again Big mistake. Half way down the gangway the guard turns round, cocks his rifle and aims it at me!!. Hasty retreat by yours truly.
The third spent the two or more hours in a open shelter freezing his knackers off whilst we the skipper got hold of the agent, who by the way was an absolute stunner with a the most fantastic fur coat, to come down and sort things out.

Lofty I did reply to this earlier, but it seems it has been lost in the system because I used too many smileys. I am off to Las Vegas tomorrow for two weeks will take my Aliens landing Card with me. Anyway they may not let me in if they have been reading this site, so if you hear from me before then you know I have been turned around. I have been warned not to take my laptop with me or frequent Internet cafes, this will be very hard as I will miss the banter and educational stuff, alas I will just have to sit around the pool with a highball and look at the lithesome young ladies. Somehow I will pull through it, as will have my blood pressure tablets with me.

How can you post such a seductive message, LAS VEGAS< DRINKIES BY THE POOL< LITHSOME and here some of us are shivering in what passes as the U.K.'s summer.
All I can say if you are at the tables, good luck and come back with a plate full of chips.

Was in Taiwan a few times during the period of the Vietnam conflict so must have been late 60s early 70s. There was a curfew there and had to be off the streets by 2200 hrs so was either an all night stay in a pub or a hotel. Does anyone remember if there were shore passes needed, cant remember having one. John Sabourn.
