Now you come to mention it Denis, that IS one of my regrets. I took my new wife to sea for four months and it was at the end of that trip that I quit. If I hadn't taken her I would never have dreamt of giving it all up. That bitch cost me my career
Needless to say we aren't married anymore. Mind you it took me a long time to realise it.

Regrets.
Ah Jim Peru is that, but as with all things it is in the eye of the beholder & we live in Asia thus see many **** holes regularly. Jim go after all never be put off by others opinions, who knows you may well love it thus no regrets & find opinions like mine meaningless. Oh by the way irony of ironies Peruvian cuisine is now (ha ha flavour of the month) very hot for foodies. Not sure why however it is, there even a Peruvian restaurant in Shanghais old French quarter near the US Embassy which we have dined at. Not too bad but the toilet is beyond belief. Also popping up in superb N.Y. Must say not the Peruvian cuisine in the former is not even similar to what I knew from several years there, nor last visit. Oh in Lima there is a massive memorial to the firemen, don't quite know why?
You should take the time to go to Chile, Santiago, whilst in Sth America then Jim you will see what a 'clean' Sth American city can be & the food wine are delicious as are the people!

Now Brain, your neighbors may well consider that to be inhospitable of you.

Going around the globe now on a world cruise would just not be the same. Most of the ports as we knew them are no more, the bars are gone, the ladies are well past it, and maybe so are some of us. Going to places now can still be fun if you make your own way around. You can have a good time no doubt and would meet many interesting people but it would not be the same. My father did a round the world cruise on QE2, with his second wife paid for by Guiness when he retierd. He dropped dead two months after coming back!!! Never left me a cent.

Hi John
Singapore is the best and most advanced City on earth, spotlessly clean, almost no crime, what there is is usually done by the immigrant labour from the Mid East. The people are all well disciplined and take Pride in their country. I was there in March this year and it always amazes me, it is always changing with the new buildings. It is beautiful.

That is right John No Chew Gum, they should have that law here , every time I go to town the pavement is covered everywhere by little grey blobs of spit out gum, if it is fresh sticks to the shoe and gets in the car. should be banned. As I say Singapore is spotless, well worth a visit. I always end up in Singapore everytime I go to OZ and stay for several days.

A long time ago massive fires ravaged Lima and a lot of the city was lost, a hundred plus firemen died saving the city, cannot remember when it was, but think it was prior my first visit in the 50's, (could be wrong on the dates) but no doubt our computer wizards can find out.
Chile one of my favourite places, Vina del Mar and Santiago hold fond memories, but not for the same reasons as the Skandy Bar in Valpo
