Alan May 87 years young!
Looking for a photo of the old midship engined motor ship Daghestan freighter built by Doxfords and torpedoed by U19 march 19th 1941.
I was on her the previous trip and is the only missing picture of those I crewed in between !940 and '47.
I believe Capt Bobbin was the skipper.

Hello Alan and welcome,
There were two ships during WW2 called 'DAGHESTAN' - the 1921 built tanker was torpedoed by U-57 (Klaus Corth) on 25th March 1940. The Master was John Rutherford.
The cargo tramp DAGHESTAN was built in 1941 and survived the war. The Master was Thomas Peacock Bobbin who was awarded the OBE(Civ) in the 1945 New Year Honours List.
Regards
Hugh

Alan-the info that you have given seems to be inconsistent with the records.
The freighter DAGHESTAN ( O.N.165812) was only laid down in 3/1941 and completed 8/1941.
She survived the war, being sold by Common Bros. in 1957 ,and scrapped in 1969.
The U-Boat.net site shows no records of U-19 having an altercation with the cargo vessel Daghestan, nor the Daghestan listed as being the target of any other U-boat.
U-19 was in the Training Flotilla based at Gotenhafen,Gdynia during that time, from 1/41 to 2/45.
As Hugh has mentioned the previous Daghestan was a tanker (O.N.145471) which was sunk by U-57 on 25/3/1940.perhaps you have mistaken the past history of of that vessel with the previous history of your vessel somehow.?…
Best Regards

Perhaps, Guliver, the confusion has something to do with the attack on the 1921 built tanker 'DAGHESTAN' by U-19.
"At 00.15 hours on 20 Feb, 1940, U-19 (Schepke) fired one torpedo at the unescorted Daghestan in 59°21N/01°48W (grid AN 1491). Schepke reported that the torpedo hit the tanker, but the torpedo exploded a few yards beyond the ship."
