I have seen the Lane Victory many times on the opposite berth to the Cruise terminal but never got the chance to get on board.
I have been on the Jeremiah O`Brien many times when I am in San Francisco. very interesting as I have sailed on that class of Liberty ship. The old Queen Mary is also a good ship to stay on, done that many times to.
Cheers
Brian.

sam boats
Sailed on the Miguel De Larrinaga in late fifties or early sixties. She was and ex Sam Boat and found them to be quite good
to sail on. Some years later I was at docks in Cairnryan in conversation with an American. The subject turned to sam boats.
It turned out that he had saikled on her when she was registered as a sam boat. Small world!

Sam Boats.......
She was the ex SAMLUZON(O.N. 1800035) built 1944 by Bethlehem-Fairfield, Baltimore in 16 days for the British Govm’t. (Lend-Lease),managed by Morel’s of London.
After the war ,in 1947 she was renamed JERSEY MAY .Sold in 1950 ,she became the MIGUEL DE LARRINAGA (Larrinaga SS Co Ltd of Liverpool) from 1950 to 1956,after which she was sold onwards to Liberian interests. and renamed TRITONICA. Broken up in Hong Kong 6/69. So,25 years was not bad for a Liberty built in 16 days, was lucky in the war-and survived so long. !

Larrinaga's ex-SAM Boats.....
As well as the previously mentioned MIGUEL DE LARRINAGA (ex SAMLUZON),Four other SAM vessels were owned by Larrinaga SS Co from the early post war years onwards.
SAMOLAND was owned as the ASUNCION DE LARRINAGA from 1948-1951(3 years)
SAMCONSTANT was owned as the RAMON DE LARRINAGA from 1948-1952 (4 years)
SAM SKERN was owned as the DOMINGO DE LARRINAGA from 1949-1955 (6 years)
SAMADRE was owned as the MARIA DE LARRINAGA from 1947-1964 (17 years)
The Larrinaga business of Liverpool was purchased by the Valiant S.S. Co., Ltd of the Vergottis Group in 1974 thus bringing to an end a family concern that had prospered for a hundred and eleven years.

Sam Boats
First ship I boarded and worked by on way back in 1947 after leaving Vindicatrix was the Beresina of Royal Mail Lines in Vic Docks London. Later sailed on St Helena of South American saint Lines also a Sam boat, quite a good trip I recall in early fifties.

Samkey
Remember on my first ship Loch garth in first quarter 1948 whilst en route Bermuda to Jamaica the ship asked to look out for wreckage and/or survivors of the SAMKEY which dissapeared without trace en route Cuba to Liverpool I believe with bulk sugar. Nothing was found as far as I know. A lot of Sam boats were reinforced with a steel band round the entire hull around that time.
