Hi Alf, as far as I know the Australian equivelent of our Red Ensign is a Red Ensign with the Southern Cross on it.
The same for New Zealand, with that extra Star underneath the Union Flag.
So your salvage vessel must have been Australian.
Cheers
Brian.

Aussie flag
The few actual registered Aust. vessels I have seen and worked on, if they didnt have a red one just put up the National Flag which is blue. (So suppose you could say they were flying the blue ensign Joke only) Always seemed to be a shortage of the red ones, must have been all bought up by pleasure vessels. Cheers John Sabourn.

Yes indeed!
Absolutely Correct Capt and Alf
I have an actual Red Ensign of Autralia, which was from an old Ship given to me by an old Aussie Seaman!
I will have to take a Pic of it in the Yard!
Cheers

Two things Alf, Oz and NZ both have their own Red Duster with the Southern Cross on it.
Second, I am curious was a book, think it may have been made into a movie.

Happy daze John in Oz.

Thanks Alf,
Apologies to Vernon, that is indeed the Aus. red ensign. The NZ red ensign has only 4 stars and not the usual 5 star cross.
