There is a story going around now that Costa cruises are interested in this ship. Can understand why, floats better than some.

Well the Americans have done it again. They have gone and sunk the poor old thing, very sad, surely they could have salvaged it, someone would have bought it I bet.

a sad end to a brave ship, she could have been kept as a memorial to all who died, they took the easy way out. must have been a sound seaworthy design. i wonder who built her, ?

I wonder if the Yanks tried to trace her original owners, or asked the Japanese Govt for permission to sink her, or was it just another video game for the Yanks with their typical "Lets kick Ass attitude"

As someone mentioned earlier, had the opportunity been given someone may have purchased her and turned her into a yacht, because one thing for sure they would know that she was seaworthy, because she didn't cross the North pacific during all summer months and those of us who have sailed that area know the tremendous storms experienced there even in summer.

What a sad end to a brave little ship, yes Tony keeping her as a memorial would have been nice and I'm sure some rich Japanese businessman in America would have liked the opportunity.

But as usual with our American cousins it's shoot first and ask afterwards

The excuse given, 'it was in the sea lanes and a danger to shipping'.
Well Mr. Yank it got here so may well have been a danger before but no one complained.

Maybe the Italians should take a leaf out of the Jap's book and send their ships to sea unmanned!!

Good job it was not found by the Aussie's because we would have spent millions on her to make it safe before sinking it. Took us years to prepare a frigate before it could be sunk because of all the pollution on it. Maybe that is why the septics got rid of it as quick as possible before the greens got wind of it.
That's the way the mop flops.

My thanks to Brian for this site.
