Hi,thanks for that Tony, the standard of reporting in NZ is abysmal at times. One of my neices worked in the news room of Yorkshire TV,she tells me the newscast went through four or five sets of hands to be checked for accuracy, then was passed on to the news reader.

John,
I've carried many MT boxes and you'll find the MT 40' TEU weighs 3 tonnes or 3.048 to be precise.
Construction varies and they can weigh anything from 2.8 up to 4.0 tonnes. We used to take an average of 3.25 tonnes(I think) for our 8.5 ' standard 40 footer.

Now boys no arguing 40' boxes come in different heights 8' / 8' 6"/9' so there will be slight differences but what we DO KNOW is that they DO NOT weigh 30 tonnes - so shake hands and call it a draw !
