Think we could do with some help down here in Oz. A body has declared October to be Ocsosber. They want all of us to go the whole month without a drink!!!!! What planet do these people come from?
    There are howevre two problems.
October is the month of the October fest, a week of a beer drinking festival.
Their ambassador for the Ocsober event, a football star with a known alcohol problem, was found to be as full as a boot on the 1st of the month.
    Happy daze John in Oz.

    Default Alcohol

Lets not forget lads, Alcohol isn't the only addiction out there that can take over a persons life. Some people are addicted to chocolate, Console games, Sex, Soap operas, Reality t.v.shows, Sweets and cakes, Food, Etc... All of which can cause mental health problems. Its only after you have walked a mile in the addicts shoes you can pass judgment. We all as ex or serving seaman know or have been acquainted with someone who has lost there lives to the booze it was to readily available aboard ship duty free to boot. And as we are all guilty of the first thing you done when docking in foreign ports was to get a sub and make for the first bar ashore. Its all down to personal choice if you abuse anything in life it will do you some damage in one way or another. Every alcoholic has a sad tale to tell for his reason for excess drinking and there is a very thin line between being an alcoholic and a heavy controled drinker. There is no excuse for abusing alcohol its in your genes from day one if you abuse it enough you wont choose the booze ? The booze will choose you. Then its how you come out the other side we all have different tolerances and metabolism's. Having said that you can be tea total and eat yourself to death by the age of 40. As my old man used to say i have a drink problem {I CANT AFFORD ENOUGH OF IT ?} Regards lads Terry.

Thank you for that insight Terry as it sounds like that comes from a reformed drinker and very proud of you for taking that step. Now it is only a matter of kerbing ones appetite for sex and food then it will only be one more step to the dias and preaching about the demon drink. Now you do realise that this puts more strain on me to take up the slack so that full employment can be maintained in Distilleries, Brewing houses and vinyards. Not to mention the taxes that I have to pay to support our elected leaders. Bloody good to see that you have seen the light all the same mate.
That's the way the mop flops.

My thanks to Brian for this site.

On BBC 1 , TV last night was a man having a Liver transplant. It was swollen so much he looked bigger than a 9 month pregnancy. As they cut out his liver I was amazed at the size, it was destroying his other organs, crushing them.
A healthy liver wieghs in at 1.2 kilos this was weighed at 6.6k or about 15 pounds and it looked a mess compared with the donated liver, covered in what appeared to be barnacles and cysts. the man had been suffering dreadfully in pain and was on death row. not long to live.
I was just about to have my nightcap of whisky in my Horlicks, I didnt have any. Scary.
    Cheers
    Brian.

I had an occasion to visit an alcoholics unit a few years ago{ JUST VISITING} There was a human liver pickled in a large tank as a warning to all the alcoholic's. It was from a cirrhosis sufferer. Someone call it scouse humour lifted the top of the tank and dropped in two onions {Liver@ Onions} Don't cut out your drop of scotch m8 you wont live any longer it will just appear you will Regards skipper Terry.

Sir Hoses of the River has been the painful end of many. But is there a plot afoot to keep those in the South going longer than their Northern brothers. I have just read a report that shows beer prices in the North of England are up to 30 pence a pint lower than in the south!

I still take my hat of to you Terry for at least trying to get of the hard stuff and daresay you will get a lot of support from the good blokes on this site. As they say the first step is always the hardest and hope that you are getting support from your fellow drinkers as that would also be hard to take. At least you know you are not alone in this as this thread has shown. I have to confess that I have been a teetotaller for that many yers now as I said in previous post I found out that drinking made me rearrange the truth to suit the occassion. As they say God be with you son and look after that liver.

    Default Well Les !!!

If it is true that you can end up in heaven for living a life without vices or demons or telling porkys {YOU WONT NO ANYONE WHEN YOU GET THERE } Your alone m8 they broke the mold when they made you.Certainly anyone from this forum? Iremember as a young lad the local priest would come knocking at our door in fact as he saw it everyones door we were all part of his flock my dear old mam god bless her would save sixpence for him to go toward the church roof.if my old man hadnt got to it first, If there was a china boat berthed in Lpool docks my old man who was a docker for years would find it and strangely enough there was always a drop of scotch around I never once saw the priest refuse a large one before blessing our house and moving on. Happy days indeed. Cheers lads good health Terry
