THe Girl that Fell from the Ferry
I really cannot imagine how the young graduate who fell from 'Princess Seaways' ferry out of Newcastle managed to do it. She is very lucky to be alive.
Girl rescued after falling from ferry: I'm so lucky to be alive - mirror.co.uk
I am a very regular passenger on that ship and you really do have to climb up high on the rails to have any chance of falling off! She was celebrating her graduation with a trip to Amsterdam with three friends. On that night the winds were very high and the sea was rough. She cannot remember how it happened. Only someone not in their right mind would go out on deck in weather like that. ?
I never go out on deck in bad weather anyway, the wind is just so strong when you walk out of the doors. It was dark outside and they were off the coast of Scarborough. What was she doing? She seems to be keeping very quiet about what she remembers.
I'll let you draw your own conclusions about this, but to me it just seems so bizarre. I know that ferry really well and would find it very hard to fall off it! She has to have been fooling around. Unfortunately the ferries bring out the worst in people when they go to Amsterdam, I have seen it too many times.
I hope this was a freak accident and not foolhardiness because she put the rest of the passengers in danger as the ship had to turn around in rough weather. She was lucky that she wasn't sucked into the propeller. The captain has never lost anyone overboard in all his 20 years at sea. It's so bizarre.

After a few years experience of Cross Channel ferries , I would think that falling overboard was only acomplished after an act of stupidity such as clambering on the railings , It is a shame that the helicopter and coastguard costs cannot be added to her student loan blll if this is an act of drunken bravado

"FALL" off.

The girl was interviewed on local tv news tonight, Very non commital. Said she was on deck with two friends,( Never said male or female) and isn't sure what happened, Said she tried to hang on (the rails I suppose) while friends tried to pull her back aboard, but couldn't. No more info, except saying she swam till she was picked up. Cheers Albi.

Maybe she was sat on the rail, I have seen many do that.

Well she certainly qualified for that position. Wonder if her fortunate escape from death has made her think of her life in a different perspective, it would have a sobering effect on most people.
I got hit by nearly 4 tonnes of steel when I was 48, (many moons ago) shouldn't have survived but thankfully did, 22 months in plaster altogether, it certainly makes me give thanks for every day there after, my greatest ambition in life now is when I go to bed is to see the ceiling in the morning.Escaping death certainly, I hope, made me a better person, and appreciate that life is all too short.

Over the years I think all of us who went to sea have seen or heard of odd incidents such as this, and all the time we say 'how could that happen'? But it does for many reasons no doubt. Years ago it was drink, bravado or just plain stupidness. But now along with all of those we have drugs! Who knows what effect a few drinks and a couple of pills will do to some people? Remember back in the days of LSD, people thought they could fly! Unless she was swept over the side by a freak wave I have no sympathy for her.

Happy daze John in Oz.
