U S Merchant Marine
I see that the US Govt and Dept of Transport are honouring the US Merchant Marine for the part they played in the 9/11 rescues. Quote "On that terrible day, our nations seafarers with courage and selflessness transported hundreds of thousands out of harms way to safety" adding " The men and women of New York and New Jersey merchant marine community provided a beacon of light on the nations darkest day, they were among the heroes running towards danger and exemplify what it means to be a merchant mariner"
I could not imagine our govt making the same statement about our merchant mariners here in the UK because they don't know we exist
More than 300,000 people were evacuated from Manhattan in the largest unplanned evacuation in the history of the United States.
